"Lola Swims" illustrations

I had so much fun designing these cute characters and trying out a new color palette. I'm super fond of warm colors so working with blues and whites was a nice change for once. Here's a couple of images to share my process.

New Children's Book

I've been working on several children's book and I'm planning on doing a couple of post to share my process. One of the first ones I did is titled "Can I have a turn" for an education company based in New Zealand, Cognition Education. Enjoy!

Grandma and Strawberry!

I had the pleasure to illustrate an ebook for Lightbooks Publishing, "Grandma and Strawberry"  written by Kain. B Fairbrooks. It's a story about a cute Grandma, owner of a beautiful strawberry garden, who one day is given some magic seeds that lead to the birth of a lively and precious red head girl. Here are a few samples of my process and some of the final illustrations. Enjoy!

CGMA classes! Fundamentals of Character design

To keep improving with my craft I'm taking Fundamentals of Character Design, (lectures by Wouter Tulp and instructed by Chris Ayers) I'm on week five and so far it's been great, the content deals with design, use of shapes, gesture, analytical drawing, use of reference and more. There's a bunch of knowledge to gain from the clear approach to character design of Mr. Tulp. There were some things I knew from reading this or that book, but another thing it's to listen to his lecture and then do the follow-up homework to really work out those learning muscles.  The feedback and Q&A are given by Chris Ayers, who is such an awesome artist and teacher. I remembered going through his work when I was in school and being so amazed by his characters and work and know to watch him take my somewhat scribbles hehe to another level it's just wow. After this, I'm planning to take more classes for sure.

Here are some of my drawings for the class. I plan to do another post with the corrections and if I have some time a color version as well.

Grow up dad!

I had this idea of a bathroom scene, where the dad and son were backlit,  I ended up doing some sketches and then after some color scripts and several hours of painting it evolved into this. Enjoy!

Carnival Time

I did this painting a while ago and forgot to post it here. I've been receiving great feeback due to the dog's expressions. Enjoy!

I tried to apply the knowledge I've gained on atmospheric lighting with this painting.
